Bike Tour

I am beginning to train for a bicycle tour, I'm not doing any serious training right now, just some endurance conditioning. Right now I'm get to School from my house in about 40 minutes on average, thats a 9.4 mile ride according to Google maps, which means I'm riding at an average speed of a little over 13mph. I'd like to get this average up to around 16-18mph by the end of the summer. My legs DO NOT WANT me to do this at all.

My normal route only has a few small rolling hills in it, but at my physical condition right now, those hills are quite killer. I would like to get to a point where I can take those hills no sweat so that when I actually do my tour next summer I won't get killed when I start climbing up the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in KY, which is one of the stops on the tour.

Ultimately I'd like to be able to tour from FL to KY, then over to DC, then up to NYC and back down the coast to FL. I'd like the trip to take less than 2 months total. If I ride an average of 10 hours a day, barring any serious delays it would take me 21 days of solid riding at my current average speed. That is significantly less than a month, which means doing the whole tour in less than 2 months is definitely a realistic possibility.

Which is exciting to me.
